Roseland Board of Education Update
Highlights of Monday, June 15th meeting

Below please find a summary of the key highlights from our June 15th Board of Education meeting ( long agenda )

• Ms. Gross presented the results of the Assessment study conducted over the previous year, recommending fewer assessment going forward  ( Assessment Presentation ) ( Assessment Study June 2015 )
• Ms. Gross thanked Dr. Occhino for his service as interim Business Administrator for the past two years
• Ms. Dacosta provided an update about Talent Show, Art Show, Kindergarten, Principal/Teacher for a day, Move up days, Field day, Family fun night, WE senior service, the upcoming 6th grade graduation this coming Thursday, and thanked the board for her time as principal
• Mr. Mastrangelo reminded the board that the board’s annual goal planning session will be held prior to the next board meeting on July 23rd
• Mr. Mastrangelo thanked Dr. Occhino and Ms. Dacosta for their contributions to the school and wished them well in their future endeavors
• The board approved:
  • Minutes from June 1st, 2015 meeting
  • Annual contracts for multiple service providers
  • Construction Contractors of NY, Corp for the update to the school vestibule
  • Teacher stipends (as per contract, stipends are paid for certain additional duties at school such as School newspaper, Student council, and morning supervisors)
  • Literacy consultant Jennifer Serravallo for the 2015-2016 school year
  • Solutions Architecture for professional architectural and engineering services for repaving the front parking lots and playground behind the school
  • Accomplishment of Superintendent merit goals
  • Tuition reimbursement for three staff members
• The board tabled approval of renewal of the Source4Teachers contract until next month, so additional evaluation can be completed
• The board discussed next steps regarding the Principal role, which will include hiring an Interim while we search for a full-time replacement. More details about this process will be forthcoming
• During Public comment, parents in attendance asked questions about Source4Teachers, Supt merit goals, professional development fees, special services costs, board legal costs, possibility of including the long agenda (includes resolution details), communicating the agenda to parents when available, possibility of filming or podcasting the board meetings, and providing more clarity on budget line items

The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 23rd at 7:30pm in the Noecker Media Center
