A Note from Raul Sandoval, Principal
Today, Mayor Spango visited our 2nd graders who have been learning about city government and their community. As part of their unit, students wrote letters asking questions about his role and making requests for improvements to the borough of Roseland. As you can imagine, the requests were very interesting. Mayor Spango read all of their letters and answered all of their questions during a lengthy “Q&A” session. Students were so enthusiastic and appreciative of the visit and so were we. On behalf of the 2nd grade team of teachers and the entire staff, we thank you for taking the time to visit us.
March 14 th -18 th 2022 is Wellness Week. The theme is Under the Good Health Umbrella. The children will be engaged in mindfulness activities, making healthy choices in what they eat and drink, and getting exercise. Please click here to see the wellness events.
The Scholastic Book Fair is back again! We will be holding the book fair indoors on March 24th and March 25th. Please click here to view the flyer!
A Note from Dr. Richard Celebre, Director of Special Services
Happy Wednesday. Continuing with our Down Syndrome fact of the week - There are three types of Down syndrome: Trisomy 21, Translocation Down Syndrome, & Mosaic Down Syndrome. The differences between the three can not typically be determined visually, but rather by looking at the individual’s chromosomal make-up ( Facts About Down Syndrome ).
Department Updates - Thank you to those that were able to attend our P/AC Workshop, Accommodations and Modifications - What are available to your children in school and at home? this past Monday. We had a great turn out, and we look forward to continuing the momentum with these parent workshops later in the Spring with our third and final installment. I wanted to also share the resources and presentations shared that night by the teachers. There are some great at home resources that can be used to continue to support your children outside of the classroom.
The Department of Special Services & Noecker Cares are continuing our month-long donation program to help grow awareness and acceptance for Down Syndrome and World Down Syndrome Day (March 21st!) collecting pairs of *NEW* socks in the main office which will be donated at the end of the month. All sizes, colors, and patterns are welcome! Thank you to those that have donated thus far, as our sock collection in the main office is growing! Looking ahead - On March 21st, it will mark our second year of running our #LotsOfSocks event for World Down Syndrome Day. On that day, we are asking all students to come in and wear a pair of socks that are going to get noticed - they might be mismatched socks or your most colorful socks! For more information, please take a look at our flier !
Progress Reports - Teachers are actively completing the second set of progress reports for the year, and they will be mailed out in line with the end of the second trimester.
Current Sixth Grade Families - In collaboration with the West Essex Child Study Team, case managers for current sixth grade families will be in touch to continue coordinating transition planning meetings for the move up to the middle school.
